Graduates of the Fire Protection and Safety Technology program are equipped for roles in fire service and related safety fields. Potential job titles include:

The Fire Protection and Safety Technology program serves as a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or Public Administration. For those pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree, NSCC鈥檚 transfer agreements help ensure that credits transfer easily to many four-year public institutions in Massachusetts. Students are encouraged to consult with academic advisors to explore transfer agreements and plan their academic pathways accordingly.
Certain fire fighters may be eligible for a tuition waiver while attending 9I果冻制作厂 Shore Community College.
To be eligible a person must:
- Be a matriculated student in the Fire Protection and Safety Technology Degree or Certificate Program.
- Be a fire fighter at the time they are taking courses and that must be documented by a letter from their Fire Department.
- At the time they are taking courses they must be interested in continuing their education at Salem State College and express this in writing.
- Be a full time student, taking 12 or more credits, in the semester they are applying for the waiver. The only exception is a student in his/her last semester when they have less than 12 credits left for their degree.
- Be only taking courses that count toward the degree or certificate.
The Application and other documentation must be submitted to the Program Coordinator who will determine eligibility and issue the tuition waiver if the student is eligible. Students must apply for the tuition waiver each semester after they have registered for courses. They need not submit documentation of eligibility each semester unless there is a break between semesters. There is no Tuition Waiver for Summer courses.
To provide an imaginative academic program of high quality, designed for aspiring and experienced professional fire fighters and those in a variety of occupational roles related to the fire service which will:
- Allow them to meet requirements for an Associate Degree in a timely manner.
- Provide the opportunity to continue their education and earn a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science Administration.
- Allow them to gain the knowledge and intellectual skills necessary for flexibility and advancement in their careers.
- Enrich their general education.
- Provide a college-level certificate program (Emergency Management Certificate currently being developed) designed to offer content and skills acquisition and other experiences appropriate for firefighters who desire technical courses but not a degree.
- Provide a program of high quality that will take advantage of possibilities inherent in independent learning, standard examinations, national and state professional programs, accredited certificates and life experiences.
- Encourage students to clarify and develop a system of values that will assist them to apply empirical methods in a manner appropriate to the fullest of their professional potential.
- Continue to identify educational needs of the fire service and provide courses, seminars and workshops as a supplement to in-service training.
- Establish a resource center with texts, periodicals, audio-visual aids and other material developed by professionals in the fire service that will allow firefighters to become familiar with current developments in the fire protection field.
The Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) Recognition Program, sponsored by FEMA, provides National Fire Academy (NFA) recognition to those regionally accredited institutions across the country that promote the standardization of fire science course titles, descriptions, and outcomes. Institutions with undergraduate fire science degree programs that offer FESHE model core associate's courses are eligible for recognition.
In June 2013 9I果冻制作厂 received recognition from FEMA as a FESHE Institution of Higher Education.
Students who take courses that have been recognized as FESHE approved courses, and pass with a 70% or better grade, will have these courses recorded on a National Fire Academy (NFA) transcript and these courses will be nationally recognized the same as any National Fire Academy course. FEMA will also E-mail the student a Certificate of Completion. This Certification adds to the prestige of your course and your Associate Degree.
